2025 Holiday Gift Guide for Kids - Quality Over Quantity Edition!
- Katie Spring
This year, we’re skipping the clutter and focusing on gifts that really earn their place. Our holiday gift guide is all about quality over quantity—items we truly love, that will be used, adored, and passed down (not tossed aside by January). These are the things we’ve bought for our own kids, or have been eyeing because they’re built to last through years, siblings, and memories. Fewer, better things—that’s the vibe this season.

Cardboard Cutting 'Power Tool'
This has been on my list for years now - it's not the cheapest, which is why I haven't pulled the trigger yet. But this might be the year! The mechanism is completely safe and won't even catch hair, making it perfect for ages 3 and up. I can see my 5-year-old boys enjoying it as much as my almost 8-year-old girl. There are lots of add-on kits available with different templates, tools, and ideas. This would definitely be the star of the show during any holiday season.

3D Printing Pen
Perfect for kids 8+ (and younger if supervised), a 3D printing pen is the ultimate creativity tool. The sky is the limit when it comes to what can be made with this awesome item. This one will be under my tree this year, and I cannot wait to see what my kids come up with. It is like a printer in the sense that you need to keep buying the filaments - but that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make if it's something they love, which I'm pretty sure they will!

LeapFrog Ice Cream Cart
Anyone who follows our socials has seen me post about this toy before. We received this ice cream cart when my daughter was around 2-years-old... and now she is almost 8 and STILL chooses to play with it many days! My 5-year-olds have logged many hours as well, along with basically every child who has ever entered our house. It includes many programmed songs and activities for 2+ years, and once they outgrow those (I'm pretty sure mine hasn't even had batteries in a few years), it is still perfect for imaginary play for all ages.

Melissa & Doug Vending Machine
This toy went viral last holiday season, and for good reason! This is a go-to in Dara's house (I couldn't get my hands on one since they were sold out everywhere). There are so many ways to use this toy. It comes with accessories to put inside the vending machine, but you can also stock it with your own little toys or treats to use as rewards! And yes, you can still use it with just the punch buttons once the coins inevitably get lost. Grab this one before it sells out again!

Gymnastics Bar
Another one that you have definitely seen me share on Instagram if you're a follower! If you have kids with lots of energy, you NEED this. We have had this one for 3+ years and it still gets used daily, and is a favourite at playdates as well. We originally got it because my daughter is into gymnastics, but quickly realized that a gymnastics hobby is NOT a pre-requisite to enjoy this! Heads up - you will need a mat or a soft surface to use it on for safety purposes. It folds up so it doesn't take up a ton of room when not in use. Trust me, your kids will love you for this one.

Tacto Interactive Doctor Kit
This one is in my cart for this year. If you're like me, you're always looking for educational tablet games that your kids actually want to play. This STEM exploration doctor kit for iPad (I believe other tablet types are supported too) is geared towards kids of 4-8 years, so it can truly make the rounds through the family. My only concern about this one is that my kids will all want to play at the same time (AKA teachable moments about sharing).

NXGKET Walkie Talkies
Trust me on this one - siblings, cousins and friends will be amused with tech-upgraded hide-and-seek for hours! I'm upgrading from my current set-of-two to this set so that there will be enough for each of my kids. Kids have been enjoying walkie talkies forever, so you know they stand the test of time. Make sure you put in batteries before gifting this one, because they will absolutely be wanting to play with it right away!

KidKraft Lego Table
We gifted this to our 5-year-old twins last year and it has been a huge hit. Not only does it provide storage, it also gives them a dedicated zone to keep their creations for as long as they like. I also love how the two sides separate to create two building spaces, keeping those "you're building in my space" arguments at by. This is one that will definitely stick around for many years!

Wonderbly Personalized Book
All three of my kiddos are obsessed with their personalized book. They can't get enough of seeing their names and avatars in print. The available customizations are minimal, but definitely enough to make sure your child feels represented. The one featured here that we have is a story along with search-and-find games, but there are many options. CLICK HERE for $20 off your first order!

The Uzzle Board Game
We are a huge board game family and I always try to gift the kids a new game during the holidays. This is the one in my cart this year! It can be hard to find games that are genuinely fun for the whole family, and this sounds like one of those. It's for ages 4+ and involves solving puzzles with patterns (so it's educational too!). Check this one out if you're raising little board gamers.

Onzillo Balance Board
This one’s a keeper, and a huge hit at Dara's house. Made from natural wood and designed for open-ended play, it’s one of those toys that actually grows with your kids. They can rock, balance, slide, or turn it into a bridge—basically whatever their imaginations come up with. It’s sturdy enough to last through multiple kids (and probably a few parent turns, too). A perfect example of fewer, better toys that get years of love.

Magna-Tiles
Both of our houses are basically powered by Magna-Tiles. Toddlers start with simple towers, then suddenly you’ve got full castles, racetracks, and ice cream stands appearing in your living room. They’re durable, open-ended, and endlessly reusable—one of those quality toys you’ll keep pulling out for years (and maybe even pass down someday). If you don’t have them yet, trust me—this set’s worth every penny.

Osmo Little Genius Starter Kit
f you’re aiming for fewer, better toys that genuinely last, this one’s a win. Dara's crew uses it constantly. The starter kit linked here is designed for ages 3–5, but there are different packages and add-ons for kids up to 12. The kit turns a tablet into playful learning with silicone “Sticks & Rings” pieces and interactive games that teach letters, shapes, and early problem-solving. I love that it’s hands-on and built for multiple years and siblings. It’s not “play once and toss” — it keeps kids engaged, growing alongside them.

Mr. Sandman 5lb Weighted Blanket
This one’s on my list this year. I’ve heard amazing things about how calming these are for kids—and honestly, for moms too. Made from breathable cotton with non-toxic glass beads, it’s a cozy, durable option built to last. The 5lb version is ideal for kids of 40-60lbs. A perfect example of a thoughtful, long-term gift that brings real comfort (and hopefully better sleep) all winter long.

Melissa & Doug School Time! Set
This one’s in my cart! It’s the kind of classic, screen-free toy that sparks imagination and lasts through years of pretend play. With its dry-erase board, lessons, and magnetic accessories, it turns any corner of your house into a mini classroom. Perfect for little teachers-in-training and guaranteed to get plenty of use—especially on snow days. A timeless pick that earns its spot on the shelf year after year.
